Recently, at the symposium on the development of green building materials industry held in Luoyang, Henan, Pan Aihua, deputy director of the raw materials department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that as a basic requirement for optimizing the industrial structure, it is necessary to promote industrial green, recycling and low-carbon development. We must vigorously develop the green building materials industry. The development of green building materials is an effective measure and way for the building materials industry to vigorously resolve excess capacity and prevent and control air pollution.

Green building materials refer to building materials that can reduce the consumption of natural resources and reduce the impact on the ecological environment during the whole life cycle, and have the characteristics of “energy saving, emission reduction, safety, convenience and recycling”. For a long time, the building materials industry, as a major industrial energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in China, the industry itself is facing many pressures such as technological progress, energy conservation and emission reduction, backward elimination, and over-resolved. The voice of developing green building materials has also been rising.

In 2003, China issued the “Green Building Action Plan”, which clearly stated that it is necessary to build a new 1 billion square meters of green buildings by 2015, and to build over 600 million square meters of existing buildings, so as to estimate at least 2 Trillion green building materials consumption, which provides a considerable market demand for the development of green building materials. Pan Aihua said that the "Green Building Action Plan" puts forward urgent and realistic requirements for green building materials, and also brings rare market opportunities for the transformation and upgrading of the building materials industry.

At present, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has established an inter-ministerial coordination mechanism for the promotion and application of green building materials with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. At the same time, the technical requirements for major varieties of green building materials are also being actively studied. On the basis of extensive research and discussion, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology selected energy-saving glass, ceramic thin bricks, water-saving sanitary ware, high-performance concrete, parts parts, green chemical building materials, green wall materials, and exterior wall insulation materials as priority promotion varieties. In addition, in the county economy, green building materials are the current highlights. By exerting the enthusiasm of local governments to develop green building materials and accelerating industrial agglomeration, a number of measures have been taken to promote the development of green building materials industry.

It is reported that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development will issue the "Green Building Materials Development Action Plan" and "Green Building Materials Evaluation Mark Management Measures", formulate the first batch of technical requirements for green building materials and carry out green evaluation work, and publish a catalogue of green building materials. Continue to strengthen cooperation with relevant departments and key provinces and regions, and support the technological progress and technological transformation of key enterprises.
