Experts interpret the GB to teach you how to choose children's furniture

Experts interpret the mandatory requirements for structural safety in the new national standard for children's furniture from the perspective of collision, extrusion, and containment, so that you can easily learn how to choose children's furniture.

Edge and tip: rounded

The product should not have dangerous sharp edges and dangerous sharp tips, and the corners and edges should be rounded or chamfered. The contactable dangerous outer corner of the product at a height below 1600 mm from the ground should be rounded, and the rounding radius should not be less than 10 mm, or the rounding arc length should not be less than 15 mm.

Standard interpretation: pay attention to the edges and tips, such as tables, chairs, cabinets, drawers or beds, etc. This part should be treated with rounded corners or internal corners.

Folding mechanism: prevent extrusion

Except for doors, covers, push-pull parts and their hardware, the product should not produce dangerous squeezing and shearing points under normal load. If the product has a folding mechanism or bracket, there should be a safety stop or locking device to prevent accidental movement or folding.

Standard interpretation: Folding chairs and folding table products need to be fixed after folding to prevent damage caused to children by sudden opening.

Projections: protect

The product should not have dangerous protrusions. If there are dangerous protrusions, they should be protected in a suitable way.

Standard Interpretation: Furniture protrusions such as handles, bolts and other parts need to be protected to avoid scratching or bumping children.

Turn the door, turn the board: not easily opened and closed

The closing force of the flip door or flap in the product should be greater than or equal to 8 Newtons.

Standard Interpretation: Make sure that the closing force of the door panel is stronger and will not be easily opened or closed to prevent children from being injured or pinched.

Holes and gaps: avoid jamming

For holes and gaps with a depth of more than 10 mm, the diameter or gap should be less than 6 mm or greater than or equal to 12 mm; the gap between movable parts that the product can contact should be less than 5 mm or greater than or equal to 12 mm

Standard Interpretation: Avoid similar dangers such as children's fingers cannot be drawn into the hole or their arms are caught in the drawer.

Closed furniture: guarantee ventilation

When the product has an airtight closed space, effective ventilation openings should be set; when placing the furniture anywhere on the floor and leaning against two vertical planes that intersect at a 90-degree angle in the corner of the room, the vents should remain unobstructed. The vents can be fitted with mesh or similar parts with good air permeability. Covers, doors and similar devices should not be equipped with automatic locking devices.

Interpretation of standards: Furniture with enclosed spaces must have vents or doors, covers, etc., without locking devices, to ensure that children can open from the inside.
