Hydrangea has a suitable temperature range of 18 to 28 ° C and a winter temperature of not less than 5 ° C. Flower bud differentiation requires 6 to 8 weeks at 5 to 7 °C. The temperature at 20 °C can promote flowering. When the flower is maintained at 16 °C, the flowering period can be prolonged. But the high temperature makes the flowers fade quickly. Hydrangea is a short-day plant that is treated dark for more than 10 hours a day, forming flower buds for about 45 to 50 days. Usually cultivated to avoid the sun shining, 60% to 70% shading is ideal. The soil is preferably loose, fertile and well-drained sandy loam. However, the change of soil ph makes the color of hydrangea vary greatly. In order to deepen the blue color, aluminum sulfate can be applied during the flower bud formation period. To maintain a pink color, lime can be applied to the soil.
