China's MDF Market Demand Analysis

MDF is a kind of density board, including long fiber board and short fiber board. A wood-based fiber or other plant fiber as a raw material, broken, fiber separation, drying after the application of urea-formaldehyde resin or other suitable adhesives, and then after hot pressing a man-made board. Due to its excellent performance and an effective way for the comprehensive utilization and rational use of wood, medium density fiberboard is one of the most promising products currently in development.

Since the 1990s, after many advanced plate furniture production lines in foreign countries have entered China, the development of plate furniture has been very rapid. It has consumed a large number of man-made boards, effectively stimulating the production of man-made boards in China, and due to the quality problems of particleboard, it has gradually been used by the MDF Board. Instead, the MDF board is not only widely used in the furniture field, but also the demand for medium- and high-density fiberboards in the decoration and other industries is increasing, making the MDF board develop rapidly in China, and this year, the national MDF design capability. Breaking 40 million cubic meters, the output in 2011 exceeded 50 million cubic meters. At the same time, the development of this industry also entered a high-risk period.

First, the high-density fiberboard industry has developed rapidly.

In the early years of the 1980s, the production of medium density fibreboard was maintained at about 5-10 million cubic meters. However, in the late 1980s, with the continuous introduction of foreign panel furniture production lines, the market share of panel furniture in China continued to increase, resulting in an increase in output. Increasing demand has increased the demand for medium density fiberboard, especially in the past 10 years, the central government has adopted preferential policies for the production of medium- and high-density fiberboards, and the profit margins for high- and medium-density fiberboard production are relatively high. The production of plate furniture in China has increased substantially. Demand for medium- and high-density fiberboards in the automotive and interior fitting-out industries is also increasing, together with the large-scale export of medium-density fiberboards, providing a broad market for medium- and high-density fiberboards. At present, in China's 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, except for Tibet, Gansu, and Qinghai provinces, there are medium-density fiberboard production lines. With the great development of the furniture industry, the development has been more rapid in recent years. The national design capacity has grown from 32.501 million cubic meters in 2009 to approximately 23% in 2011 with an increase of nearly 40,000 cubic meters; Guangxi has grown from 3.058 million cubic meters in 2009. From 2011 to 7.8 million cubic meters, the new production line reached 4.715 million cubic meters in 2 years, which accounted for 60.45% of the total design capacity. The design capacity in Guangdong in 2009 was only 3.698 million cubic meters. By May of this year, the design capacity has increased. To 5.9295 million cubic meters, an increase of 60.34% in less than two and a half years (Guangxi's design capacity is provided by the Guangxi Forestry Industry Association, and Guangdong design capacity is the company's multi-year tracking data), making China's high-density fiberboard development into Blind development of the track.

2. Domestic and foreign market space of MDF (A) MDF in the domestic market In 2011, due to the drive of real estate in China, the output value of wooden furniture was about 5.05 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.78% over the previous year. Board, only last year, the output value of wooden furniture in Guangdong Province was 168 billion yuan, and the consumption of artificial board reached 22.22 million cubic meters. The application scope of MDF has been continuously expanding. In addition to furniture, a large number of medium- and high-density fiberboards and plywood have been used in laminate flooring, decoration, automobiles, and packaging to provide a market space for the development of wood-based panels. In 2011, China's MDF domestically The demand is about 40.77 million cubic meters. Table 1

(2) Import and export of MDF in the international market;

With the increasing demand for MDF in both domestic and foreign markets, especially the demand for MDF in the domestic furniture and other industries, although China’s medium- and high-density fiberboards have developed rapidly, in 11 years More than eight times increase, import volume also decreases year by year. However, China's MDF production has a relatively poor quality problem, especially the problem of formaldehyde emission that is related to people's health is even more serious. As China's high-quality MDF production can not meet the production needs of the furniture, flooring, automotive and decoration industries, a large number of MDF are imported from New Zealand, Thailand, Australia and Europe each year to meet the production of furniture and other materials, such as 2011 The number of MDF boards imported this year still reaches 98,700 cubic meters.

After China's MDF production continues to increase substantially, the output is greater than the demand, so that China's MDF enterprises regard export as an important channel for product sales, and China's MDF exports are greatly affected by the international market. The annual export volume is maintained at more than 2 million cubic meters. Since the first four months of this year, as the demand for MDF in the world has grown substantially, for example, the U.S. imports reached 172,200 cubic meters, an increase of 22.13% over the same period of the previous year, accounting for 21.86% of China’s exports and Russia’s imports of 9.24. Ten million cubic meters, an increase of 30.97% over the same period the previous year, Saudi Arabia increased by 56.69%, South Korea increased by 34.28%, so that China's exports of MDF 778,800 cubic meters, an increase of 15.84% over the previous year.

Third, the main problems in the development of MDF There are major problems in the development of MDF in China:

(1) The competition among wood-based panels is fierce. In recent years, the development of particleboard has been rapid. In 2011, the production of particleboard in China reached 25,593,900 cubic meters, an increase of 102.45% over the previous year. There are still a large number of imported production lines. The new production line of more than 220,000 cubic meters reached 7 and the design capacity was 1.78 million cubic meters. After improving the quality of the chipboard, due to its products with less wood, relatively low raw material requirements, lower production costs, particleboard in the increase in production, you can lower prices to participate in market competition, which will be on the MDF industry band A serious shock.

(II) Another prominent issue in the development of MDF in China is the quality issue. In the past, China’s MDF production was relatively low. As long as there was yield, it would be beneficial, and enterprises would not attach importance to quality. Therefore, the MDF produced in China, The more common quality problems exist. In the past, many of our MDF production enterprises were developed by relying on forest resources and cheap human resources. We achieved some modest economic benefits by increasing the number of units, and the development of medium-density fiberboards has been rapid. However, in the past, we consumed a lot of wood in development, and low-priced MDF production was sold at low prices, wasting a lot of forest resources. At present, the price of MDF in the timber market in Guangzhou is quite different from that in the specification. For example, according to the survey of two enterprises in Guangzhou Yuzhu International Timber Market on May 23, the same 15% thick MDF, the highest per cubic meter 2002 Yuan, the lowest only 1320 yuan, a contrast of 680 yuan per cubic meter, a contrast of 34.07%;

(III) Another outstanding problem in the development of China's MDF industry is that many small scale, backward equipment and technologies exist. In particular, some companies do not meet the requirements of the National Development and Reform Commission: “2011 Product Structure Adjustment Guidance Catalog” for single-year production of MDF. With a design capacity of 50,000 cubic meters or more, for example, in Shandong Province, which has the largest number of MDF production in China, the annual production capacity of single-fiber MDF production lines reaches 40,000 cubic meters and reaches 43 lines, accounting for 46.24% of the total bus line. By 2004, it had reached 37, accounting for 39.78% of the bus. Due to raw materials and other reasons, the output of 10 provinces and cities in Shanxi, Sichuan, and Jiangxi all failed to reach the level of equipment design capabilities. Among them, 60% of the provinces and cities still failed to reach 50% of their design capacity. Some forest resources cannot support the high-speed development of the MDF industry. Therefore, in the transformation and upgrading of enterprises, it is necessary to eliminate some of the MDF enterprises that do not conform to the country’s industrial policies and equipment, and must quickly reverse the past to rely on quantitative benefits. Instead, rely on quality to benefit.
