Beer barley quality requirements and fertilization techniques

Malting barley are important raw materials beer industry. Beer barley is different from forage or edible barley. Its quality requirements are: low protein, high starch and high germination rate. The high nitrogen content of the grains in general, relatively low starch content, and shell thickness, small grain, high corneum. This kind of wheat grain is prone to heat and germination in the process of malt production, and the germination process is difficult to control; at the same time, the malt leaching rate is low, the fermentation is poor, the beer foam is not good, and the fragrance is affected and the quality is lowered.

The main points of fertilization technology for beer barley:

    (1) Fertilization characteristics   Beer barley has a shorter growth period than wheat, and its ability to absorb fertilizer is worse than that of wheat. The cultivation requirement is that the early stage strives for early growth and strong seedlings, and strives for multiple spikes; the medium-term mastery of steady growth; the later fertilizer supplementation, prevention of premature aging, and competition for grain weight. Therefore, the fertilization characteristic of beer barley is that it is necessary to apply base fertilizer, and most of the fertilizer is used as base fertilizer.

    (2) Controlling the amount of nitrogen fertilizer   In order to high-quality and high-yield beer barley, the amount of nitrogen fertilizer should be applied properly. Otherwise, the dosage will be too high, which will increase the protein content and reduce the starch content, resulting in poor quality. According to the study, 400 kg of high-yield beer barley per mu is generally not more than 13 kg.

    (3) Combined application of NPK fertilizer   The application of appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer should be accompanied by the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, which has a dual effect on improving the yield and quality of beer barley and should not be ignored. For the soil in the northwest, the ratio of the three is 1 : 0.5 : 0.3 .

    (4) Foliar fertilization   In view of the characteristics of the fat absorption of beer barley, spraying the concentration of 0.1 % to 0.2 % potassium dihydrogen phosphate at the late growth stage is necessary to improve the yield of beer barley and improve its quality.
