According to the current production status, characteristics of bauxite and the price level of raw fuel, Chinalco has carried out a large number of calculations on production costs, and proposed to use innovative series process instead of mixing method and sintering process to produce alumina, and set up major science and technology projects. Aluminium Shanxi Branch, Chinalco International Shenyang Aluminum and Magnesium Design and Research Institute and China Aluminum Industry Zhengzhou Research Institute jointly undertake and carry out joint research.

The implementation of the innovative series method makes it necessary for the past mixing process to require 6 kiln to balance the two series of Bayer process red mud of the old system. Now only 4 kiln is needed; and compared with 2008, the old system mine consumption is in bauxite. In the case of a decline in grades year by year, not only did it not rise, but it declined significantly. The overall energy consumption of alumina has also dropped by 30%. The research and development of this technology plays a key role in promoting the company's cost reduction, and it is also a major change in the alumina process and equipment produced by the sintering process.
