Customs statistics show that the total value of imports and exports of forest products in the first half of 2010 was US$44.67 billion, an increase of 41.4% year-on-year. China's import and export trade in forest products is accelerating its recovery, and will return to a new stage of stable growth.

Data show that in the first half of 2010, China’s forest product exports reached US$22.33 billion, an increase of 33.0%; imports were US$22.34 billion, an increase of 50.9%. In the month of June, the total value of imports and exports of forest products nationwide was 8.26 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 40.2% year-on-year; of which: exports were US$ 4.24 billion, up 44.4%; imports were US$ 4.02 billion, up 36.1%.

In the first half of the year, imports of logs, sawn timber, paper products, wooden furniture, wood chips, natural rubber, and palm oil continued to increase. The largest increase was in wood chips and sawn timber. Wood chips imported 1.876 million tons in the first half of the year. Imports amounted to 260 million US dollars, an increase of 125.8% and 142.4%. Sawn timber imported a total of 6.548 million cubic meters in the first half of the year, with an import value of 1.67 billion US dollars. 59.4% and 76.6%. However, during the month of June, the import of some products showed a situation of price increase, such as paper, paperboard and paper products, which imported 314,000 tons in June, a decrease of 4.1%, import volume of 420 million US dollars, an increase of 20.6%; natural rubber imports in June 11.6 Tens of thousands of tons, down 12.2%, the import value of 350 million US dollars, an increase of 71.2%; palm oil imports in June was 519,000 tons, down 4.0%, import value of 420 million US dollars, an increase of 3.4%.

In terms of exports, wooden furniture still occupies the top spot in China's forest product exports. In the first half of the year, a total of 141.520 million items were exported, and the export value was 7.38 billion US dollars, up by 24.7% and 46.5% respectively. Paper, cardboard and paper products, wood products, plywood, fiberboard and other bulk products continue to keep increasing in volume and price. Sawn timber exports slowed down in the first half of the year, with a total of 265,000 cubic meters of exports, and export value of 160 million US dollars, down 8.2% and 8.6% respectively. Other major products such as rattan, grasshoppers and products exported a total of US$740 million in the first half of the year, a decrease of 14.0%; Rosin and its products exported 156,000 tons in the first half of the year, and the export value was US$280 million, an increase of 19.5% and 86.6%.
