This is the information obtained on September 26th in the “Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation and Silicone Water Soluble Release Fertilizer Symposium†held in Beijing. The meeting held that the development of China’s agriculture has entered a new stage. To advance the modernization of agriculture and transform the mode of agricultural growth, it is necessary to accelerate the pace of innovation in fertilizer production technology and application promotion.

As we all know, chemical fertilizers have played an important role in China's food security and the effective supply of agricultural products. However, since the 1960s, the national grain output has increased by more than 10 times, the use of chemical fertilizers has increased by more than 30 times, and the utilization rate of chemical fertilizers is only about 30%-35%. Moreover, the utilization rate of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers was only 31%, 24%, and 42% in the current season, and a large part was fixed or lost, leading to farmland pollution, damage to the ecological environment, and a decline in the quality of agricultural products. Taking the road of “high-quality, high-efficiency, increasing production, and environmental protection†for sustainable agricultural development, there is an urgent need for changes in fertilizer production and fertilization methods.
Chen Shengdou, director of the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center, said that since the beginning of the new century, China’s agriculture has achieved remarkable achievements, and grain production has achieved “a continuous increaseâ€, which cannot be separated from the contributions of chemical fertilizers. However, the mode of agricultural production in China is high input, low output, and low utilization. The irrational use of agricultural products such as pesticides, fertilizers, agricultural plastics, etc. has led to soil degradation, ecological damage, and deterioration of the quality of agricultural products. It has transformed the mode of agricultural growth, increased the intensity of agricultural science and technology innovation, and embraced “abatement, efficiency increase, and cost savingsâ€. The increase in the entrance exams has become a challenge for China's fertilizer production and application promotion.
According to a special report of “Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation and Development Direction of Fertilizers†by Bai Youlu, Director of the China Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Society, modern agriculture requires fertilizers to be highly efficient, refined, functionalized, convenient, and friendly to development. Adapted fertilizer production, management and use systems will also change. Zhou Zeyu, Director of the Technology Promotion Division of the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center, has demonstrated the importance of technological innovation of fertilizer products for agricultural production and peasants' income increase from the effect of organosilicon soluble slow release fertilizer farms. He pointed out that as a high-tech product, organic silicon water-soluble slow-release fertilizer has unique effects in increasing the amount of crops, fertility and quality of agricultural products. According to Li Tongzeng, a national secondary agricultural technology researcher and chief agrochemical expert of Hebei Silicon Valley Fertilizer Company, the focus of fertilizer research and development in the future should be to shift from pursuing production to improving output and quality.
Yin Chengjie, former deputy director of the Ministry of Agriculture and president of the Chinese Association of Agricultural Technology Extension, emphasized in his speech that after breakthroughs in fertilizer technology innovation, the corresponding product application and promotion model must also be upgraded. In the future, the development of agriculture should not only increase production and improve quality, but also use resources, protect the environment, and take the road of sustainable development.
