Nanoelectronics technology will help improve the performance of solar power systems

The physicist organization.com reported that researchers at Arizona State University in the United States have suggested that nanoelectronics technology can make solar cells thinner, more efficient, and increase the capacity of energy storage equipment, which will help improve the performance of solar power systems. The related topic speech was first presented on the 16th Annual Conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Chicago on February 16.

Stephen, a professor at the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, Arizona State University, addressed the topic of "The Next Generation of Photovoltaic Paths", emphasizing how nanoelectronics research can drive innovation and make PV technology significantly improve the ability to convert light to heat into electricity.

He pointed out that the progress brought by nanoelectronics will become a potential factor in the development of new types of clean, renewable energy systems. Advances in relatively new areas of nanoelectronics, especially based on new manufacturing processes and equipment, will make renewable energy systems and technologies more efficient and cost-effective.

He said that in the research, he will particularly study new devices based on nanostructures, enabling them to manufacture photovoltaic solar cells and achieve better energy conversion efficiency. He explained that the key is the characteristics, nature, and behavior of nanoscale materials. At the nanoscale, silicon and other materials used to make solar cells can boost the effectiveness of the equipment and generate more energy. “We can make nanostructures by using nanoparticles, for example, to increase the collection of light and make the system capture more light to convert it into electricity. Using nanomaterials can make solar cells thinner and more efficient, and can also increase energy storage equipment. The capacity of nanotechnology will be the biggest factor in the progress of energy technology in the future."

Stephen's speech at the American Association for the Advancement of Science is part of his research, and the other four scientists and engineers on his research team will demonstrate advances in nanoelectronics and renewable energy.
