The National Public Radio recently reported that a recent retrospective study found that it is unclear how the wild salmon will be affected if the genetically engineered salmon escapes into the wild.

The scientists made the above observations after reviewing more than 80 analyses of the differences in growth, behavior, and other characteristics of genetically modified Atlantic salmon and traditional cultured salmon that were developed by the biotech company AquaBounty Technologies. In the past 20 years, the company has been applying to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the approval of the listing of genetically modified Atlantic salmon that have grown faster and larger than their counterparts. However, no final conclusion has been reached. Although company executives have stated that such escape is “absolutely impossible” because the squid will grow in the land storage tank, many environmentalists are still not convinced.
