In the past few years, two-dimensional photoelectric materials such as graphene have been regarded as a new generation of “dream materials” with its extraordinary characteristics, attracting widespread attention from the scientific community and industry. Since 2014, the two-dimensional material group has ushered in an outstanding new member: black phosphorus. The biggest advantage of black phosphorus is that it has a controlled and adjustable energy gap, making it easier to detect light, and its energy gap can be adjusted by the number of layers, so that black phosphorus can absorb wavelengths from the visible light to the communications infrared range; and Black phosphorus is a direct energy gap semiconductor that converts electronic signals into optical signals. These properties of black phosphorus are not possessed by graphene, so that black phosphorus is considered as a new super material. However, there is a problem with the application of black phosphorus, which is that it is difficult to achieve a large-scale preparation of thin black phosphorus.

In response to this problem, the research team established a new method for stripping black phosphorus from the alkaline solution phase, achieving high-efficiency stripping and preparation of black phosphorus from bulk to thin layers and even monolayers (black phosphites), which was prepared by this method. The black phosphorus can be stably dispersed in traditional solvents such as water, which greatly improves the application of black phosphorus. In addition, the research group also revealed the phenomenon of Raman red shift of thin black phosphorus, which is derived from the interlayer van der Waals force of black phosphorus. With the increase of the number of layers, the vibrational activity of the phosphorus atoms in the layer is hindered, which in turn reduces the vibrational energy, resulting in a significant red-shift of the Raman peak positions corresponding to the three vibration modes. This layer-dependent Raman property can be effectively applied to the identification of black phosphorus layers. In addition, the research group also successfully used black phosphor to achieve the mode locking of fiber lasers.
