According to Interfax, Russia will reduce import tariffs on a number of jewels including rough diamonds from 20% to 15%. The new tariff policy will come into effect on January 1, 2010. In addition, the customs unions of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan will reduce the import tariff on synthetic diamonds from 20% to 5%.
Tariffs for other unprocessed precious and semi-precious stones, including rubies and sapphires, will be reduced from 20% to 15%. Import tariffs on unprocessed pearls will be reduced from 20% to 10%, and import taxes on processed pearls will be adjusted from 20% to 15%.
